This Side of Town

Growing up in a Hispanic household I was not familiar with the world of fine art and as I got older I began to understand why. For most of history what has been recognized as fine art has been shaped by the white upper class leaving out the voices and work of many marginalized communities. As I’ve developed as an artist I’ve made it a priority to challenge that exclusion in any way I can.

This Side of Town is a celebration of artists who have been pushed to the margins and the communities that shaped us. It is a reminder that we belong in these spaces. We resist through creation and grow by coming together. We carry the title of artist with pride because it has always been ours.
