Programs Description:
ENGAGEMENT with estefanía vallejo santiago’s Altar:
Visitors are invited to engage with Santa María protégenos de todo mal by bringing a small offering to place on the altar. Offerings can include photographs, handwritten notes, ribbons, candles, shells, devotional objects, fabric, or other items connected to protection, remembrance, care, and ancestry. Please bring objects that will not rot, wilt, or otherwise deteriorate during the installation. Participants may also take a quiet moment at the altar to reflect, offer a prayer, or honor someone they wish to protect or remember.
Book Club:
We’ll be reading Beloved by Toni Morrison in conjunction with this exhibition. We have 10 free used copies available to the first ten people to commit to joining both discussions. The audiobook is also available through the Chattanooga Public Library (Libby).
Inside/Outside:
Inside the Art, Outside Ourselves is a series of periodically released passive guides that each invite you to spend time reflecting on a specific artwork from our main exhibition. Through guiding prompts, histories, and context, we encourage you to dig deeper into the work, think meaningfully about the ideas presented, and to respond with drawing or writing exercises. Artists to be featured include: Desmond Lewis, Ọmọlará Williams McCallister, & Chayse Sampy.
