Stove Works' own, Riley and Cam, invite you to join them in an afternoon of mending and repair. Their experience mending their own clothes and passion for refuting fast fashion has lent Cam and Riley the on-going goal of repairing what they already own and reducing the amount they buy new.
Stitching together known and new skills, this workshop will address basic hand sewing techniques and visible mending methods- primarily Sashiko. Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique that has been used to decorate and reinforce garments at points of wear. We are excited to play with this well-established process and give our community space and time to practice slow fashion.
Please feel free to bring your own materials and garments to repair. Please also keep in mind that this workshop will be focusing on working with most denims, cotton, and synthetic materials, and we cannot guarantee fixes for special fabrics like silk and wool (unless you are fine with experimenting with those fabrics!).
