Opening: Techo-animism

  • Stove Works 1250 East 13th Street Chattanooga, TN, 37408 United States (map)

Techo-animism: “a culture of technological practice where technology is imbued with human and spiritual characteristics. It assumes that technology, humanity, and religion can be integrated into one entity.”

Techno-animism explores the connection between spirituality and technology as the lines begin to blur between artificial and biological Intelligence. Our digital and physical experience is analyzed, quantified, and consumed by technological entities designed to reflect us. As the resources they provide are further imbued into our lives, like digital IV’s dripping curated information into our minds and guiding our fingers to ease the burden of emails, the entities are instructed to aim for reliance. Our current position provides the appearance of a devastating future driven by incentives of the consolidation of power, but with different incentives, these entities could positively revolutionize the human condition. The future is upon us; time is running out to decide who holds the reins.

Organized by Jackson Hussey with works made in collaboration with Arman Delapaz, Russel Robinson, Abby Randolph, Dick Cutter, and Quinn Diamond.
